Frost & Lorca, a unique fusion of art, poetry and theatre was created for the San Miguel Fringe Festival in Mexico in February 2016.
The production is a dramatization of a limited edition portfolio (Lorca Portfolio).
Celebrated British abstract artist, Sir Terry Frost, R.A (1915 - 2003) spent a decade creating work inspired by the poetry of the renowned Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (1898 - 1936) producing the beautiful Lorca Portfolio: eleven poems in both Spanish and English, each accompanied by an original etching by Frost.
Three actors and one musician, working with the director, bring the portfolio to life. Lorca’s poetry, projections of Frost’s etchings, stories about the artists and evocative Spanish guitar music create a powerful piece of theatre.
The first performance in February 2016 took place at the Skot Foreman Art Gallery, Fabrica Aurora, San Miguel de Allende, where the eleven original Sir Terry Frost etchings were displayed to compliment the performance. The etchings are now part of the Thom Beers art collection
The play was sponsored by a loyal patron of the San Miguel Festival and rehearsal space was donated by the director of Bellas Artes, Alberto Lenz.
In June 2016, there was a further performance atThe Portico Gallery London which developed the projections of the paintings. Rosebery’s Auction House offered their eleven framed Sir Terry Frost etchings to accompany the performance.
More sponsorship enabled a three week period of research and development in February 2017, culminating in a performance at MuvArte Galeria in San Miguel de Allende.
Frost & Lorca was extremely well received and encouraged to continue research and development and pursue other venues, as a strong bilingual piece.
